What's New? Spring Brings New Features!

Leading from the forefront, Wavecrest Computing has upgraded CyBlock and Cyfin products with new key components to further enhance filtering, reporting and monitoring functionality. Please be certain to upgrade to the latest version to boost your product's capabilities. Listed below are some of the new, state-of-the-art features:

  1. Custom Reports. You can now create, name and save your own personalized reports. These custom reports can run manually or be scheduled to run automatically (included in CyBlock Proxy, CyBlock ISA/TMG, Cyfin Proxy & Cyfin Reporter).
  2. Dashboard Drill-down. From the Top Users and Top Categories charts, instantly run a User Audit report or a Category Audit report (included in CyBlock Proxy, CyBlock ISA/TMG, Cyfin Proxy & Cyfin Reporter).
  3. PDF Option in Reports. This new feature enables you to receive or email reports in PDF, as well as HTML formatting (included in CyBlock Proxy, CyBlock ISA/TMG, Cyfin Proxy & Cyfin Reporter).
  4. Classification Enhancements. Set your own classification criteria in reports to show which categories are rated Acceptable, Unacceptable or Neutral. You can create a new classification policy, select no classification, or use the default classification (included in CyBlock Proxy, CyBlock ISA/TMG, Cyfin Proxy & Cyfin Reporter).
  5. Filtering by Half-Hour. Filtering Web categories can now be done in half hour increments instead of hourly (included in CyBlock Appliance, CyBlock Proxy, & CyBlock ISA/TMG).
  6. Add Detailed URL Addresses to Standard and Custom Categories. For more precise tracking, a domain directory or detailed URL address can now be added to standard or custom categories (included in CyBlock Proxy, Cyfin Proxy & Cyfin Reporter).
  7. Report Timeframe Filter. A timeframe filter option has been added to your reports. You can now select the days and times for the data you want to appear in your report. This means you can exclude weekends and after hours, if you wish (included in CyBlock Appliance, CyBlock Proxy, CyBlock ISA/TMG, Cyfin Proxy & Cyfin Reporter).
  8. Real-Time Bandwidth Monitor. The new bandwidth monitor provides you with real-time bandwidth usage data for the Top 10 users or IPs. This can help you quickly spot spikes in bandwidth usage (included in CyBlock Appliance, CyBlock Proxy, & Cyfin Proxy).

All these enhancements support our goal to continually upgrade our filtering, monitoring and reporting products with new, user-friendly features and benefits.

New Releases - CyBlock 6.5.0 and Cyfin 8.5.0

In our feature article, we highlighted many of the new features recently added to our CyBlock and Cyfin products. CyBlock Version 6.5.0 and Cyfin Version 8.5.0 are the latest releases, and we are happy to deliver you the following:

  • Classification Policies. New classification policies can be created and saved for use in manual and scheduled reports. The policies can be created and selected from a new option on the Reports - Manual and Reports - Schedule screens. Two named classification policies are provided with this release: Default and No Classification. The Default classifications policy is set at the Category Setup - Classify Categories screen, and No Classification means that no classifications will appear in the report.
  • Dashboard Drill-down. Drill-down reporting has been added to the Dashboard Top Users and Top Categories charts. When clicking on a user from the Top Users chart, a User Audit Detail report will automatically run, and when clicking on a category from the Top Categories chart, a Category Audit report will automatically run.
  • Dashboard Traffic Chart. A new trend chart to track allowed and denied hits traffic has been added to the Dashboard. This chart is available by going to the Dashboard and selecting Trend - Traffic.
  • Dashboard Metrics Denied Visits and Denied Hits. Two new metric options have been added to the Dashboard Top and Trend charts. They are Denied Visits and Denied Hits. Denied Visits are failed attempts to access a Web site. For the most part this occurs because the user is not authorized to access the site, i.e., his access has been "blocked." However, a "denied" indication can also be caused by technical anomalies, e.g., "page not found by server", etc. Denied Hits are any type of viewable or usable data transmission that is triggered by a visit to a Web site and is denied or blocked. Denied hits can be in the form of a denied or blocked file, message, object, graphic, link, banner, ad, or push item.
  • Email Notification When License Exceeded (CyBlock Only). If the number of filtered users exceeds what the product license allows, an email notification will be sent to the product's administrator every three days.

To see the full release notes for your product, visit the Support Forum. You can download the latest release by going to the Administration - Product Update screen in your CyBlock or Cyfin product.

Tech Tip: Upgrade from IE 6.0

If you are still using Internet Explorer 6, we and Microsoft recommend that you upgrade as soon as possible. One of the main reasons to upgrade is that Wavecrest's CyBlock versions 6.3.0 and later and Cyfin versions 8.3.0 and later no longer support IE6.

Microsoft also has a big push now to get users to upgrade and stop using IE6. See their new website ie6countdown.com. One of the main reasons they are pushing the upgrade is security. They state, "we recommend that Internet Explorer 6 users upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer for a safer browsing experience." So if you haven't done so already, Wavecrest recommends that you take a minute to make sure all of the computers and servers in your network are upgraded to a later version of Internet Explorer.

If you have any questions, please contact Wavecrest's technical support team by phone at 321-953-5351, extension 4 or toll-free at 1-877-442-9346, extension 4.

Improve Categorization with Otherwise

If you haven't taken advantage of our OtherWise program, now's a great time to start! What is OtherWise? It's an easy way for Cyfin and CyBlock customers to reduce the percentage of non-categorized (also known as "Other") Web sites in their reports.

To participate in OtherWise, simply enable OtherWise on the Setup - OtherWise screen in your Cyfin or CyBlock product. This data is sent to our list technicians, who will categorize the top sites that are currently uncategorized. There is no cost, no user names are included in the data, and your data is kept completely confidential.
